Registration
Who can register on the DSAC eRecruitment Portal?
+
Registration
The portal is open to South African citizens who wish to apply for advertised vacancies at the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture. You must be at least 18 years of age and hold a valid 13-digit South African ID number.
What information do I need to create an account?
+
Registration
You will need:
- Your valid 13-digit South African ID number
- A working email address (this becomes your login)
- A contact phone number
- A password of your choice
- A security question and answer (used for password resets)
You will also be asked to provide POPIA consent as part of registration.
I registered but did not receive a confirmation. What should I do?
+
Registration
If you did not see a success message after registering:
- Try logging in with your email and password — if it works, your registration was successful.
- If login fails, try registering again with the same email. If the system says the email is already taken, your account exists — use Forgot Password to regain access.
- If problems continue, email ApplicantEnquiries@dsac.gov.za with your full name and ID number.
Can I create more than one account?
+
Registration
No. Each ID number and email address may only be linked to one account. Duplicate accounts may result in your applications being disqualified. If you have forgotten your login details, use the Forgot Password option on the login page.
What is the Youth Talent Database and is it the same as applying for a vacancy?
+
Registration
The Youth Talent Database is a separate initiative from vacancy applications. It targets South African youth aged 18–35 who hold a tertiary qualification. Registering on the talent database does not constitute an application for any advertised vacancy, and does not guarantee employment. Refer to the Official Notice PDF on the login page for full requirements. Note: talent database registration is currently closed.
Login & Password
How do I log in? What is my username?
+
Login
You can log in using either your email address or your 13-digit ID number, together with your password. Both are accepted in the single login field labelled "Email Address or ID Number".
I forgot my password. How do I reset it?
+
Login
Click
Forgot Password? on the login page. You will need:
- Your 13-digit ID number
- Your registered email address
- Your registered phone number
- The answer to your security question (chosen at registration)
If you cannot remember your security answer, email
ApplicantEnquiries@dsac.gov.za with your full name and ID number and request a manual reset.
My account shows as "inactive". What does that mean?
+
Login
An inactive account means your profile has been deactivated, or your registration was not fully completed. Contact
ApplicantEnquiries@dsac.gov.za with your full name and ID number to request reactivation.
I keep getting "invalid credentials" even though I'm sure my details are correct.

Check the following before contacting support:
- Are you entering your email address (not your name or username) or your full 13-digit ID number?
- Is Caps Lock on? Passwords are case-sensitive.
- Try your ID number if you have been using your email, or vice versa.
- Clear your browser cache and cookies, then try again.
If none of these work, use
Forgot Password to set a new password.
Z83 Profile & Skills Matrix
What is the Z83 form and why do I need to complete it?
+
Z83
The Z83 is the official government application form required for all public service positions in South Africa. On this portal it acts as your profile template — your Z83 information is automatically pre-populated into each vacancy application you submit. You must complete the Z83 before you can apply for any vacancy.
What is the Skills Matrix and is it mandatory?
+
Z83
The Skills Matrix records your qualifications and competencies. It is a separate section from the Z83, and both are mandatory prerequisites — your application cannot be submitted if either the Z83 or the Skills Matrix is incomplete. Look for the red indicators on your dashboard as a reminder.
I completed my Z83 but the dashboard still shows the red indicator. Why?
+
Z83
The red indicator means the system has not yet detected a
saved Z83 record for your account. Check:
- Did you click Save / Submit at the bottom of the Z83 form? Partially completed forms are not saved automatically.
- Log out and log back in, then check the dashboard again.
If the indicator remains red after confirming your Z83 was submitted, contact support with your ID number.
Can I update my Z83 after completing it? Will it affect existing applications?
+
Z83
Yes, you can update your Z83 at any time via the Z83 Profile button on your dashboard. However, changes made after a vacancy application has been submitted will not retroactively update that application — only future submissions will use the updated information. If you need to correct a submitted application, contact support.
How do I fill in my work history on the Z83?
+
Z83
The Z83 accepts up to
3 previous work experience entries. For each role provide:
- Employer / company name
- Job title or post held
- Start and end dates (or "Present" if currently employed)
- Reason for leaving
When applying for a specific vacancy you will also be prompted to describe your
Key Performance Areas (KPAs) — the outputs and achievements for each role you have listed.
Applying for Vacancies
What are the steps to apply for a vacancy?
+
Applying
The process must be followed in this order:
- 1. Register — create your account on the portal.
- 2. Complete your Z83 — personal details, qualifications, work history.
- 3. Complete your Skills Matrix — competencies and qualifications.
- 4. Browse Vacancies — use "Browse Jobs" on your dashboard.
- 5. Apply — select a vacancy, review pre-populated info, add your KPAs and motivation letter, then submit.
Steps 2 and 3 must be completed before Step 5 is available.
What is a KPA and when do I need to submit it?
+
Applying
A Key Performance Area (KPA) describes the specific duties, responsibilities, and achievements you held in each previous role. When applying, you will be asked to write KPA detail for each work experience entry in your Z83. This helps the Department assess the depth and relevance of your experience. The text box allows up to 750 characters per role.
Can I save a draft and finish my application later?
+
Applying
Yes. Use the Save Draft button at the bottom of the application form. Your progress will be saved and is accessible under My Apps on your dashboard. Important: a draft application is not received by the Department — you must click Submit Final Application before the closing date for your application to be considered.
Can I apply for more than one vacancy?
+
Applying
Yes. You may apply for multiple open vacancies. Your Z83 and skills information is pre-populated for each application — you only need to add your motivation letter and KPA details per position. Each application is treated independently.
What happens after I submit? Can I withdraw my application?
+
Applying
Once submitted, your application status changes to Submitted and is visible under My Apps. You can withdraw using the Withdraw button — you will be asked to provide a reason. Withdrawn applications cannot be re-submitted. If you are shortlisted, the Department will contact you via the details on your profile.
Can I apply after the closing date?
+
Applying
No. Late applications are not accepted under any circumstances. The system automatically closes the application form once the closing date has passed. Please check closing dates carefully and submit well in advance to allow for any technical difficulties.
Should I email my CV to the support address?
+
Applying
Please do not email CVs to the support address. CVs sent to ApplicantEnquiries@dsac.gov.za will not be forwarded to any hiring manager and will be discarded. All applications must be submitted through this portal. The support email is for technical assistance only — login problems, registration errors, or profile issues.
Technical Issues
The portal is not loading or something looks broken. What can I do?
+
Technical
Try these steps first:
- Refresh your browser (F5 or Ctrl + R)
- Clear your browser cache and cookies (Settings → Privacy)
- Try a different browser — Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox are recommended
- Try a different internet connection, or disable any VPN if active
If the problem persists, email
ApplicantEnquiries@dsac.gov.za with a brief description and, if possible, a screenshot of the error.
My session expired and I was logged out. Did I lose my work?
+
Technical
For security, the portal automatically ends your session after a period of inactivity. Any fully saved drafts are retained and accessible under My Apps after logging back in. Unsaved changes in an open form at the time of logout may have been lost. It is recommended to click Save Draft regularly while completing your application.
My ID number is being rejected as invalid during registration.
+
Technical
Ensure you are entering all 13 digits of your South African ID number with no spaces, dashes, or other characters. The system validates that the date embedded in the first 6 digits (YYMMDD) represents a real calendar date. Double-check that you are entering the number exactly as it appears on your green ID book or smart ID card. If the error persists with a correct ID number, contact support.
Which browsers are supported? Can I use a phone or tablet?
+
Technical
The portal works on modern versions of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Safari. Keep your browser up to date for the best experience. The portal is accessible on mobile and tablet devices, but a desktop or laptop computer provides the most comfortable experience — especially for completing the Z83 form and writing your motivation letter.
General
Is my personal information safe on this portal?
+
General
The DSAC eRecruitment portal complies with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Your personal data is used solely for recruitment purposes within the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture. Explicit consent is obtained during registration and your information is not shared with third parties for commercial purposes.
What happens if I am shortlisted? How will I be contacted?
+
General
If successful at the screening stage, your application status in My Apps will update to Shortlisted. The Department may contact you via the email address or phone number you provided at registration to arrange an interview. Keep your contact details current via Edit Profile on your dashboard.
I submitted an application by mistake. Can it be cancelled?
+
General
Yes. Use the Withdraw button in My Apps and provide a reason. Please note that once withdrawn, an application cannot be re-submitted for the same vacancy.
Can I view or print my completed Z83 form?
+
General
Yes. Once your Z83 is complete, a View Your Z83 button will appear on your dashboard. Clicking it opens a PDF version of your completed form which you can download or print for your records.
